Chapter 7 Breakfast

Janet's POV:

The dream I had last night was great. It definitely was not something that occurred to me all the time. I dreamt that Hannah's disease was treated in time and that she had a full recovery. Together, we went home and everything soon became better.

That wonderful dream was interrupted by the rude ringing of my phone. Completely left in a daze, I sat up as my eyes wandered at the strangeness of the new environment I found myself in.

I stayed that way for quite some time before it occurred to me that I was married. It still hadn't sunk in.

When I got out of bed and opened the bedroom door, I found Ethan curled up in a sofa. There was a pillow in his arms. His seemingly ginormous body was covered with a gray blanket. Clearly, the couch was way too short to accommodate his tall body. Most of his legs were hanging in the air. The morning sunlight poured in from the window, filling the room with warmth. His beautiful features seemed to be accentuated by the illuminating light of the sun.

Ethan did not make a move on me last night so I was less vigilant against him.

I tiptoed into the kitchen so I wouldn't disturb the peaceful slumber he seemed to be enjoying. There were eggs, bread, and a package of bacon that had been left untouched in the fridge. The bottles of spices and sauces seemed to have never been used either.

Putting on the floral apron I found, I began to whip up something for breakfast.

As I placed the slab of bacon on the sizzling hot skillet, the kitchen was filled with a beguiling aroma.

Ethan's POV:

The enticing smell of food welcomed me as I opened my eyes. I sat up with my lazy, just-woken-up eyes, and peered at Jocelyn who looked like a busy bee in the kitchen.

Looking at her slender figure, memories from many years ago came rushing in.

For a short moment, I thought I was still dreaming. Back when I was a child, my mother would always make breakfast before I even woke up.

I clutched my short, messy hair and watched Jocelyn, immersing myself in the pleasant memory that invaded my mind.

"Do you want to have some breakfast? The bread will be ready in a bit. Go brush your teeth and wash up." Her words seemed to pull me back into reality.

"Okay," I replied as I forced my feet to lead me into the bathroom.

After a while, I went back to the dinning table, pulled out a wooden chair and sat down. The steaming bacon and egg sandwiches and the bowl of oatmeal on the table definitely did not fail to whet my appetite. Gingerly, I picked up a sandwich and took a bite.

Memories of having dinner with my mother right at this very table filled my mind. Years later, I'd had my fill of the fanciest and most luxurious food in the world but none of them could compare to what I had then. It never occurred to me that I'd ever have a meal that would remind me of those happy days. The food that Jocelyn made tasted extremely similar to that of the food my mother used to cook.

With smile, I looked at Jocelyn and said, "This is delicious. It's exactly like what I used to eat when I was a child."

For a moment, I saw a stunned look on Jocelyn's face. Finally, she said, "Thanks. I'm flattered. Please do the honors of washing the dishes. I have something urgent to deal with today."

I nodded and did not say anything more. I took my time enjoying the delicious food on the table.

Soon after our breakfast together was concluded, Jocelyn packed up her things and left.

Not long after her departure, I heard the doorbell ring. Without thinking much, I opened the door and asked, "Did you forget anything?"

Much to my surprise, it wasn't Jocelyn standing in front of the door. It was Sean Johnson, my assistant. He gazed at me with his mouth agape. There was a stunned look on his face.

"Shut your mouth, Sean." My eyes wandered outside. There was an air of vigilance around me before I finally invited him in.

"I went to a Michelin-starred restaurant and picked up some breakfast for you," said Sean.

My diet was quite restrictive. I only ate food made by a specific chef. Sean was the person responsible for delivering me my meals.

However, at that moment, I was not excited for the food at all. "I've already eaten. You can have it. Wash the dishes on the sink after you eat your breakfast," I casually said.

Once again, Sean's eyes widened with disbelief.
