Chapter 6 Sleep On The Same Bed

Ethan's POV:

After a short pause, she said, "Who else do you think I am? That's such a stupid question."

I frowned, not saying a word. Sometime ago, I had somebody look into the Lind family's daughter. From the investigation, I found out that Jocelyn Lind was an arrogant, willful, vain, and brainless woman. She liked hooking up with rich men.

Because of that, I pretended to be a penniless man in front of her, thinking that she would take the initiative to file for divorce.

However, the rumors about her seemed to be untrue.

The woman in front of me would constantly blush with shyness and was as graceful as a woman could be.

There was no trace of the slutty woman from the investigation at all.

For some reason, I have this impression that the woman standing in front of me was quite interesting.

Anyway, I couldn't care less whether or not this woman was the real Jocelyn. I only married her because it was my mother's dying wish.

All I had to do was marry her.

"It was a casual question. Forget about it." I picked up my suit jacket off of the chair and took a step back. My eyes were still intently gazing at her as I asked, "I've said all I needed to say. Do you have anything else to add?"

She shook her head and replied, "No."

With acknowledgement, I nodded at her. I turned around and was about to head to the bathroom when I caught a glimpse of the concern in her eyes. It wasn't until now that it occurred to me. There was only one bed in this room. It had been a while since this house had people in it. I only asked the servants to clean it monthly.

"There is only one bed here. I'll sleep on the sofa tonight. You can sleep in the bedroom," I said. There was calmness in my voice as I started casually taking my cufflinks off.

Jocelyn waved her hand and said, "That's really kind of you. But don't you think it's a little inappropriate for you to sleep on the sofa? After all, it is our wedding night. Besides, you're quite tall. I don't think you'd be able to sleep comfortably on the sofa."

"Well, I guess you're right. But there's only one bed. I'd have to sleep next to you." I lowered my head and closed the distance between the two of us. "I'll join you after my shower," I teased.

Janet's POV:

"You... You have the wrong idea. That wasn't what I meant!" My eyes widened at his proposal. I crossed my arms against my chest, trying to find an escape. However, this place was far too small to find a hiding place. I had no choice but to retreat to the wooden table.

Stretching his long arms, Ethan locked me in an embrace.

"What did you mean, then?" Ethan asked, mischief evident in the tone of his voice. The glint of playfulness in his eyes frightened me quite a bit.

My heart pounded like a bass drum, seemingly wanting to escape the confines of my chest. I could feel the warmth of his breath blowing against my neck. We were so close that I could feel the friction against our bodies. The heat emanating from his tight body surrounded me. There was no room for an escape.

"I want to sleep alone. Besides, you just said that we only needed to be a couple on paper," I retorted, trying my best to regain the composure that I lost.

"Well, I changed my mind. Being a real couple seems like a good idea. After all, it sure sounds like you want to consummate our wedding," he teased. Withdrawing his hand from my waist, he tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear.

"No, I don't!" I could feel my face turning crimson as I screamed at him with gritted teeth.

"Hmm... It sure looks like it. You just invited a man to sleep on the same bed with you." He sounded so nonchalant.

"I did not!" Pushing him away, I ran into the safety of the bedroom, closed the door and locked it. I later found myself leaning against the door as I put all of my best efforts into catching my breath.

My heartbeat sounded outrageous and my face felt as if it had caught on fire. I felt feverish.

I heard Ethan's manly chuckle coming from just outside the door.

I felt uneasy and vigilant as I sat on the bed, staring at the closed door and its handle.

If Ethen dared to barge in, I would hit him with the lamp on the bedside table.

I was often bullied as a child. As time passed by, I learned how to protect myself.

My eyes were unblinking as I intently stared at the door. It wasn't until very late that I fell asleep.
