Alexandra "Alex" Thompson stared blankly at the contract on her coffee table, the words "Relationship Agreement" emblazoned on the cover in bold font. She rubbed her temples, trying to ward off the impending headache. Why was she doing this?
Her best friend, Rachel, sat across from her, sipping a glass of wine. "Come on, Alex, it's just a business arrangement. You get a handsome fake boyfriend, and Sam gets a chance to improve his public image."
Alex sighed. "I know, I know. It's just...I don't know if I can pull this off."
Rachel set her glass down. "You'll be fine. You're a great actress. Just pretend Sam is your leading man, and you're playing the role of a lifetime."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "You're not helping."
Sam Walker, the man in question, walked into the room, a charming smile on his face. "Hey, ladies. Ready to sign on the dotted line?"
Alex felt a flutter in her chest, which she quickly attributed to nerves. She stood up, smoothing her dress. "Let's get this over with."
The contract outlined the terms of their agreement: they'd pretend to be in a relationship for six months, attend public events, and post romantic photos on social media. In return, Sam would pay Alex a substantial sum of money, which she desperately needed to fund her struggling art studio.
As they signed the contract, Alex felt a sense of unease. Was she really doing this? Selling her time and affection for a paycheck?
Sam's warm handshake and genuine smile didn't help. "Don't worry, Alex. We'll make this work. We'll be great together."
Alex forced a smile, trying to ignore the spark of attraction she felt. This was business, not pleasure. She repeated the mantra to herself as they posed for a photo together, their fake relationship officially underway.
As the camera snapped, Alex wondered what she'd gotten herself into. Was she ready to unscript her life and take a chance on love?
